Meet Our Pastor - Rev. Ken Barnes

Meet Our Pastor

News Flash! On June 29, 2014 we completed a year-long search process and called Rev. Tracy Barnowe to be our next settled pastor. Her first Sunday leading worship will be August 24. Click here to read more about her and listen to the candidate sermon she preached.

Rev. Ken Barnes started as our Interim Pastor on November 1, 2012 and will be with us until we complete the search for a new settled pastor, a process that normally takes one to two years. Ken has wide experience in UCC churches, both as a full-time pastor and as a specialist in the interim role.  Here’s how he introduced himself:

Dear Friends,

My name is Ken Barnes. I will be your interim pastor, and I look forward to our time together. I am married. Donna, my wife has taught and done research as a medical sociologist. We have a daughter Monica. She is a choreographer/ dancer and is married to an actor. Unfortunately for us, they live in New York City and we don’t see them as often as we would like.

I am a native Californian. I was raised in Kelseyville. If you know where Kelseyville is, you know California well. For those who are uncertain, it’s between Finley and Cobb (joke). If you know someone from Kelseyville and if they have lived there more than thirty years, I could well be related to them.

I have served four churches as the installed pastor; first in Scotland, then in Orinda, then in Hayward and finally in Kensington where I ministered for twenty-two years.

Since resigning from Arlington Community Church in Kensington, I have had five interim pastorates in Laguna Beach, Sonoma, CCC Tiburon, Montclair, NJ and most recently at UCC Petaluma. I am fortunate to have had these interims in my pastorates. They have been a blessing, a renewal and a learning experience. I have been changed and challenged in each congregation.

I trust we will work well together and delight in the Spirit moving amongst us. We will minister together and discover ways to renew and restore the spirit which flows between a pastor and a congregation. We will find ways to continue being a vital Christian community and hopefully embrace the spirit and enthusiasm for our calling as a people of Christ.

Rev. Barnes’s first sermon specifically addressed one of the first responsibilities of an Interim: making peace with the past. You can hear it here.

Our Office Manager -

Our Office Manager

It seems that iEric1Rowelwas literally born to be the Office Manager at FCCSR. He has over three years experience as full time Office Manager at a large, local church, navigating a long list of responsibilities very similar to our own. In addition, he has experience with website maintenance and other computer skills that will be a big help.

lEricIis currently in Graduate School for a Master’s Degree in History, and will be continuing on for a second Master’s in Education in the coming years. It looks like his relatively limited class hours will be a perfect fit with the part-time needs of our job.
